FLANCI, client case study

Flanci is a new and exciting new brand of design-led running and exercise leggings, started by Nicky & Alf Chrascina. The Flanci brand appeals to runners who are looking for vibrant designs and a quality product, so a well designed ecommerce website was an important requirement. Flanci chose Liquidshop for their new website.

Nicky is a passionate runner with over 100 marathons and ultra-marathons under her belt – including the gruelling, self-sufficient, multi-day Marathon Des Sables, Grand 2 Grand and Alps 2 Ocean races . Alf also has run several marathons and ultras, although he has swapped his running shoes for golf shoes recently. They have also enjoyed running holidays in Patagonia and Peru, climbed Kilimanjaro and enjoy an active lifestyle with their dog, Billy.

Nicky qualified as a nurse and midwife and has worked in pharmaceutical sales for the last 20 years, Alf also worked in sales and management for a large corporation, but both have really wanted to work for themselves and leave the large corporate environment.

The idea of FLANCI first came about several years ago when Nicky struggled to find anything but primarily black running kit. It became a mission to hunt down some colour, the seeds of a business were sown and the plans started coming together at the end of 2017.

FLANCI is an anagram of Nic and Alf and is also in the urban dictionary: – Better than fancy but not better than fabulous. This just seemed to fit with the brand perfectly and they love seeing people wearing their own FLANCI pants!

As a runner, Nicky understood what runners want from their activewear. So, in collaboration with runners and also a professional sportswear designer, FLANCI legwear was developed as a comfortable, functional, affordable brand with fun and funky colourful patterns. Not only for runners, they are suitable for the gym, yoga or just for relaxing in.

We asked Nicky and Alf a few questions about their experience of working with Liquidshop and their new commence website.

How did you select your website partner and what factors are most important to you?

We interviewed three providers and felt Liquidshop, as well as local, was the best fit for us. This venture was totally new to us and we needed someone we felt we could trust to guide us. We wanted the flexibility that if we changed our website provider we would retain ownership of the work to date.

What is your experience of working with the Support team at Liquidshop?

At times we feel like real website muppets but Josh always answers our queries and concerns with great empathy and when dealing with the designers we get the same first class service.

After about 6 months of trading the web designers upgraded our site and we were blown away with how they improved the site in line with our company ethos.

What is your advice to anyone similar to yourselves, and looking to set up a new online retail business: challenges, things to consider, etc?

We need competent professionals help that we can trust to guide us in the right direction. Website designers, accountants, bookkeepers, social media, all are so important, you can’t do everything yourselves as there is just so much to learn.
